Why Choose JL Audio 13W3v3-2 Component Car Subwoofer?
Tight, Clean Bass
Engineered for space-saving enclosures, the W3v3 delivers impressive output and precise sound. DMA-optimized design ensures linear motor force for tight, clean, and articulate bass with minimal distortion.
Bigger, Stronger Bass
The 13.5" mineral-filled polypropylene cone with rubber surround delivers powerful, precise, and durable bass. Moves 54% more air than the 12" model for higher efficiency and output. Includes a removable, customizable trim ring; optional steel-mesh grille inserts enhance protection and style.
Powerful, Realistic Bass
Delivers up to 600W RMS, pairing seamlessly with a wide range of vehicles and amplifiers. Precision cone design ensures smooth, low-distortion bass in both sealed and ported enclosures.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does my 13W3v3-2 emit a heavy burning smell or hot glue odor during hard play?
The voice coil is overheating due to amplifier clipping or excessive gain settings, despite the driver's built-in **Elevated Frame Cooling**. This model handles a strict **600 watts RMS maximum**; sending it a distorted signal melts the coil insulation.
- • Can I wire two 13W3v3-2 subwoofers together to a 1-ohm stable mono amplifier?
Yes. Wiring two Single Voice Coil (SVC) 2-ohm subwoofers together in a **parallel configuration** drops the total circuit impedance down to a standard **1-ohm load**. Verify that your monoblock amplifier is fully stable at 1 ohm before running this setup.
- • Can I wire two 13W3v3-2 subwoofers together to create a 4-ohm amplifier load?
Yes. To achieve a **4-ohm final load**, you must wire the two subwoofers together in a **series configuration** (connect the amplifier's positive lead to sub 1, jumper sub 1's negative to sub 2's positive, and sub 2's negative back to the amplifier).
- • Why does my amplifier constantly click into protection mode when this single sub plays hard?
Because this is a native 2-ohm single voice coil driver, it draws heavy electrical current. If your vehicle's charging system drops below **12 volts**, or if your amplifier struggles with heat dissipation under a continuous 2-ohm load, it will trigger thermal shutdown.
- • Can I use a universal 13.5-inch aftermarket foam surround kit to repair a torn edge?
No. The 13W3v3-2 utilizes a proprietary **Nitrile Butylene Rubber (NBR) surround** molded into a specific high-roll geometry. Standard universal foam kits will completely alter the suspension compliance and ruin the driver's sound quality.
- • Why does the bass response sound completely hollow or completely cancel out inside my truck cabin?
The subwoofer is likely out of phase with the rest of your door speakers. Try flipping the positive and negative speaker wires at the amplifier terminals (**180-degree phase shift**) to see if the bass instantly aligns and impacts correctly.
- • Can I buy a standard drop-in aftermarket re-cone kit to fix a blown 13W3v3-2?
No. Third-party kits cannot replicate JL Audio's patented **Ventilated Reinforcement Collar (VRC)** system and specific basket landing dimensions. Blown units must be repaired with original parts or sent to a specialized shop for factory-spec rebuilding.
